Budrys: Energy is one of the most promising areas of cooperation between Lithuania and Vietnam
On 28 July, during his visit to Vietnam, Budrys met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc.
The Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and Vietnam in the fields of the economy and energy.
Minister Budrys emphasized that Lithuania seeks to consistently deepen ties with Southeast Asian countries and considers Vietnam to be one of its most important partners in the region. Last week, on 24 July, Lithuania acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), thereby confirming its commitment to deepening dialogue and practical cooperation with ASEAN member states.
The accession to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation is an important step in strengthening Lithuania’s ties with Southeast Asia, and we view cooperation with Vietnam as a key component of this policy,” said Minister Budrys.
The meeting focused heavily on the prospects for economic and energy cooperation. Budrys emphasized that Lithuania sees mutual benefits in developing a partnership in the energy sector and is ready to share its accumulated experience. The Minister also invited his Vietnamese counterparts to visit the Klaipėda LNG terminal and explore opportunities for cooperation.
“Energy is one of the most promising areas of cooperation between Lithuania and Vietnam. Lithuania has accumulated unique experience in strengthening energy security, developing LNG infrastructure, and diversifying energy sources. We are ready to share this experience with our Vietnamese partners and seek concrete projects that are mutually beneficial,” said Budrys.
The Minister also highlighted Vietnam’s plans to interconnect the country’s northern and southern power grids and Lithuania’s potential contribution to joint projects in this area.
“Lithuania has successfully completed the strategically important synchronization of its electricity grid with Continental Europe. This was a complex technical and political process that provided us with valuable experience. We see great potential for cooperation with Vietnam in the areas of power grid development and strengthening energy resilience,” emphasized the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.
The Minister also discussed business opportunities for Lithuanian companies in Vietnam with the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister. According to Budrys, Lithuanian companies could contribute to the development of Vietnam’s infrastructure sectors and participate in future high-speed rail projects.
“We wish to see more Lithuanian companies in Vietnam and more Vietnamese investments and business partners in Lithuania. Our companies offer high-value-added technological solutions that can contribute to Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and modernization,” noted Budrys.
