Budrys discusses strengthening regional security, defence and deterrence with members of the US Congress

On 13 October in Warsaw, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with members of the US Congress Gary Peters, Kevin Cramer and Marc Veasey.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and the United States, transatlantic security challenges, the regional security situation and support for Ukraine. The Minister stressed that Lithuania remains an exemplary and responsible NATO Ally, leading the way in defence spending and consistently strengthening its defence capabilities.

“The presence of US troops in Lithuania is a fundamental guarantee of our security and an essential element of deterrence against Russia in the Baltic region. We are grateful to the US Congress for its consistent political and financial support, which plays a crucial role in strengthening security and deterrence in our region,” Budrys said.

The Minister also expressed his gratitude for the support provided by Congress to the Baltic states through the Baltic Security Initiative (BSI), which contributes to the development of Lithuania’s defence capabilities in priority areas.

Budrys emphasised that Lithuania works closely with the United States not only on security and defence, such as the modernisation of its defence capabilities. The bilateral agenda is broad and multifaceted, encompassing intensive cooperation in areas such as energy, the economy and technology.
