Budrys discusses economic diplomacy priorities with business representatives

On 7 October, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with representatives of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists and foreign chambers of commerce operating in Lithuania.

The meeting focused on Lithuania’s economic diplomacy priorities, strengthening international partnerships, and practical opportunities for Lithuanian businesses to become more actively involved in international value chains.

“Economic security is an integral part of our national security. Strategic partnerships must help ensure resilient supply chains, access to critical technologies and investment. Business must be an integral part of economic diplomacy, contributing to the setting of priorities, the preparation of visits, the development of international partnerships and the promotion of Lithuania’s image abroad,” said K. Budrys.

The Minister also highlighted the opportunities that Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027 will create by bringing increased international attention to the country. He invited the business community to enhance political dialogue with concrete initiatives in investment, technological partnerships, market access and resilient supply chains.

According to K. Budrys, economic security will be one of the key themes of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.

The Minister noted that it is important not only to ensure the screening of strategically significant investments, but also to strengthen resilient and reliable supply chains, reduce dependencies on untrustworthy partners and create conditions that enable businesses to operate safely in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

The meeting also covered ways to strengthen transatlantic economic cooperation, create a competitive business environment, and address issues related to negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework. Participants further discussed the opportunities that EU enlargement and Ukraine’s future membership of the Union could create for businesses.
