Budrys at GreenTech Vilnius 2025: The Green Deal – the key to a secure, stable, and competitive Lithuanian economy

On 29 October, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys participated in the Lithuanian Energy, Transport, and Green Economy Forum – GreenTech Vilnius 2025 held in the capital.

The Minister joined the session on public economic welfare and the secure future of the state, which discussed "How many thousands of jobs and billions for businesses and the state will be generated by the successful green transformation of Lithuania's economy?". During the discussion, Budrys stressed that the green transformation was not only an environmental or energy issue, but also a strategic tool for strengthening national security, economic autonomy, and democracy.

“Lithuania has already shown how bold decisions in the field of energy can lead to a sustainable, resilient, and geopolitically independent country. The Green Deal contributes to the creation of a secure, stable, and competitive Lithuanian economy and allows us to eliminate energy dependence on authoritarian regimes, strengthen local industry, and create new high-value-added jobs,” the Minister said.

The Minister stressed that the green transition must be implemented responsibly and pragmatically, maintaining the competitiveness of local industry, avoiding new dependencies on third countries, and using EU financial, trade, and industrial policy instruments.

This year, the GreenTech Vilnius 2025 forum brought together more than a hundred speakers from Lithuania and abroad. Discussions covered topics such as sustainable energy, circular economy, climate policy, artificial intelligence, and innovation integration.
Already in its 19th edition, the forum continues to explore innovations and green technology development directions aimed at ensuring the competitiveness of Lithuania’s economy and the resilience of the state.
