On 27 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul. The Minister and the Prime Minister discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Thailand, as well as opportunities to develop economic and technological cooperation.

Budrys emphasized that Lithuania highly values its friendly relations with Thailand, the origins of which date back more than a century.

"Lithuania values Thailand as an important partner in Southeast Asia. We enjoy a long-standing friendship, and today we see even more opportunities to strengthen political dialogue, expand economic cooperation and jointly address global challenges," said Budrys.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed Lithuania's support for Thailand's ambition to become a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by 2028. Budrys noted that Lithuania is ready to share its experience and good practices of accession to the OECD.

The Minister also invited Thailand to resume negotiations on a Lithuania–Thailand Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement by updating the draft prepared in 2008 in line with current international tax standards and creating more favourable conditions for trade and investment.

Economic cooperation and investment promotion were also discussed. Budrys welcomed Thai investments in Lithuania, in particular the activities of Indorama Ventures in Klaipėda, and underlined Lithuania’s interest in strengthening business ties and expanding the activities of Lithuanian companies in Thailand in the fields of digital technologies, advanced manufacturing and life sciences.
