On 22 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Battsetseg Batmunkh, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ministers of Lithuania and Mongolia discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, support to Ukraine and opportunities for cooperation in the areas of digitalisation, innovation and education.

During the meeting, Minister Budrys emphasized that Lithuania considers Mongolia an important partner in Northeast Asia and seeks to develop political and sectoral relations more actively.

"This year, Lithuania and Mongolia celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Mongolia is Lithuania's partner in Northeast Asia, which we consider an integral part of the wider Indo-Pacific region. Lithuania is ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation and look for new areas where we can build a mutually beneficial partnership", said Budrys.

Budrys presented Lithuania's development cooperation projects in Mongolia and underlined Lithuania's readiness to share experience in the areas of state digitalisation, electronic public services, cyber security, artificial intelligence, GovTech and start-up ecosystem development.

“Lithuania’s accumulated experience in digitising public services, building an innovation ecosystem and strengthening resilience to cyber and information threats can contribute to Mongolia’s digital transformation,” the Minister stressed.

Budrys called on Mongolia to continue to support Ukraine at the United Nations and to contribute to international efforts aimed at upholding international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine remains the biggest challenge to international peace and security. We expect Mongolia to support the initiatives of the United Nations General Assembly in support for Ukraine," said Budrys.
