Budrys and his Moldovan counterpart discussed resilience to hybrid threats

On 14 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, on the margins of the Munich Security Conference.

The Foreign Ministers discussed the EU’s support for Moldova in countering Russia’s energy blackmail and increasing resilience against Russian hybrid attacks. Budrys emphasized Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s European integration aspirations and readiness to help implement reforms.

“Lithuania strongly believes in Moldova’s European future. It is important to increase the country’s resilience to hybrid threats and reduce energy dependency on Russia. We know from experience the importance of energy detachment from Russia’s power lines. Together with the European Union, we will try to help Moldova by all possible means,” said Budrys.

The Foreign Ministers also discussed Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s fight against Russian disinformation in the run-up to Moldova’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

In response to the energy situation, Lithuania has handed over EUR 68,000 worth of power generators to Moldova and continues to support the country’s diversification of energy sources.
