On 22 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys met with Google's Vice President Karan Bhatia in New York.

The meeting discussed the priorities of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, EU's technology policy and opportunities for further cooperation with Google.

As important priorities of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Minister identified strengthening European competitiveness through innovation, the deployment of artificial intelligence, the development of digital infrastructure and the reduction of administrative burdens on business.

The Minister also stressed that cyber security is today not only a question of technology, but also of national security, economic resilience and democratic stability.

"During Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, special attention will be paid to cyber resilience, the protection of critical infrastructure and the fight against foreign information manipulation," Budrys said.

According to him, Europe's resilience can be strengthened by combining national capabilities with partnerships with the United States and global tech companies.

The Minister also discussed the EU's digital regulatory initiatives with Bhatia, stressing that regulation must enable innovation and ensure a clear and consistent legal environment.

Budrys presented Lithuania as a reliable technology investment partner, highlighting a strong start-up sector, advanced digital infrastructure and growing ambitions in artificial intelligence.
