Budrys: A Moldova integrated into the EU is in the interest of all Europe

On 9 July in Vilnius, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Valeriu Chiveri, responsible for reintegrating Moldova's Transnistrian region.

During the meeting, Budrys and Chiveri discussed the current state of affairs in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, possibilities of reducing Russian influence in Moldova, regional security challenges, and Moldova's integration into the EU.

"The issue of the reintegration of Transnistria is crucial for the security of our region and of Europe as a whole. We support the efforts of the Moldovan Government in this direction and fully support the increased engagement of international partners on this issue," said Minister Budrys.

During the meeting, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy said that Lithuania would continue to fully support Moldova on its EU integration path, related reforms, and strengthening democratic resilience.

"A strong, united, resilient and fully integrated Moldova into the EU is a pan-European interest with a view to the future security of the wider region and of the European continent as a whole," said Budrys.
