BILATERAL LITHUANIAN-MALTESE COOPERATION DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS

On 5 June Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Audrius Navikas received a delegation led by the Chairman of Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Malta Jason Azzopardi and discussed Lithuanian-Maltese bilateral cooperation, topical European Union issues.

Lithuanian and Maltese officials also talked about closer cooperation possibilities in tourism, trade, and information technology spheres.

Ministry Undersecretary  Navikas addressed the issues that are important for Lithuania – accession to the Euro zone and establishment of the office of European Institute for Gender Equality in Lithuania. Maltese Foreign and European Affairs Committee representatives expressed support for Lithuania’s objectives. Illegal migration in Malta and possible actions that the EU can take against it were also discussed.

The discussions will be continued during the visit of  Maltese Minister of Foreign Affairs Michael Frendo to Lithuania in August.
