BILATERAL COOPERATION ISSUES WERE DISCUSSED IN NORWAY
On 24 August in Oslo Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Store and discussed bilateral Lithuanian-Norwegian cooperation.
Minister Vaitiekūnas noted that Financial Mechanisms of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway started operating in Lithuania. Under these mechanisms about 67 million euros should be allocated to Lithuania in 2004-2009 for various projects not financed by EU Structural Funds.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister reminded that 15 years ago on 27 August, 1991 Lithuanian-Norwegian diplomatic relations were restored and congratulated both nations on this occasion.
Minister Vaitiekūnas invited the Head of Norwegian Diplomacy to visit Lithuania with a delegation of Norwegian businessmen. He also encouraged Norwegians to develop more actively trade and investment in Lithuania.
In the meetings with the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament (Storting) of Norway Lithuanian delegation discussed important issues of bilateral cooperation.
In the afternoon Lithuanian Minister visited Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute where he delivered a lecture “Lithuania’s relations with Eastern neighbours in the context of the EU and global policy”.
