Baltic and Nordic Foreign Ministers underline the importance of EU’s unity
On 27 June, the Baltic and Nordic Foreign Ministers participated in a conference call to discuss the situation after the United Kingdom’s referendum. It was agreed that at this moment in time the most important thing for the EU was to remain highly concentrated and unified.
“The NB-6 format has always intended to help the EU to be more concentrated and unified. Today, all the Foreign Ministers reiterated that the EU’s unity was now needed more than ever in the ongoing discussions after the United Kingdom’s referendum. We have agreed to work exactly on this,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.
The Baltic and Nordic Foreign Ministers said that they respected the decision of the people of the United Kingdom, and hoped that the UK’s exit would be smooth and rapid.
“We have to await the United Kingdom’s official notification of the decision to leave the European Union. We understand that Britain needs time, but a delay can create even more uncertainty and uncertainty is detrimental in both political and financial terms,” said Linkevičius.
