BALTIC AND NORDIC DIPLOMATS DISCUSSED CURRENT ISSUES OF CONSULAR COOPERATION
On 9-10 November in Klaipėda, the delegation led by Director of the Consular Department of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Pinkus attended the meeting of the Consular Subcommittee of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Baltic Council of Ministers and the consultations of representatives from the consular departments of the Baltic and Nordic foreign ministries.
During the meetings, officials discussed Baltic-Nordic cooperation in providing consular assistance and in issuing Schengen visas. They exchanged information on current issues of consular activity, discussed prospects for further work.In order to get acquainted with the facilitated Kaliningrad transit programme that is financed by the External Borders Fund, diplomats from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway, and Sweden visited the Lithuanian Consulate General in Kaliningrad, where they were shown how the Special Transit Scheme operated starting with the preparation of documents and ending with their issuance in trains, and checks of passengers at the Lithuanian state border crossing points.
Diplomats were also acquainted with the activities of the Consulate General of Lithuania in Kaliningrad. The Consulate represents Denmark, Estonia and Norway for the purpose of issuing Schengen visas.
