BALTIC AND FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTERS MEET IN PARIS

On 29 April in Paris, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis and his Latvian and Estonian counterparts Sandra Kalniete and Kristiina Ojuland met French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin. The ministers discussed their countries’ position concerning the issues of the Convention on the Future of the European Union, the preparation for the upcoming EU-Russian Summit in St. Petersburg, the importance of the transatlantic link after the war in Iraq and bilateral relations. The Baltic ministers stressed the importance of consolidating the equality of the states in the enlarged European Union. Dominique de Villepin approved the role of the Baltic States as experts of Russia and Eastern European countries, which will help to strengthen the relations between the European Union and these countries. The Lithuanian-French bilateral relations were positively evaluated at the meeting. Antanas Valionis invited French businessmen to invest more in Lithuania.
