AZUBALIS IN LONDON CALLS FOR BUSINESS DIALOGUE WITH LITHUANIAN EXPATS (The Baltic Course, 11 November 2011)
On November 10, in London, the Lithuanian foreign minister in London called on furthering the business dialogue that was successfully initiated between Lithuanians living broad and in Lithuania, said BC the Foreign Ministry.
"The record-breaking indicators of Lithuania's exports to the EU markets in such times of stress, particularly those of the Lithuanian goods, show that we really can be proud of many things, as we are able to be competitive even in such difficult times," Audronius Azubalis told the meeting with representatives from various Lithuanian organisations in the United Kingdom.He stressed the importance of the engagement of the local Lithuanian organizations in the creation of the 'Global Lithuania', the necessity to strengthen the Lithuanian World Community and for everyone to contribute to the everyday life of Lithuania.
"One of the main goals of the Global Lithuania programme that the Government of Lithuania adopted this year is to join members of the Lithuanian Diaspora together into single communication space and to engage them into the everyday life of Lithuania as actively as possible, persuading them to maintain ties with their Homeland," said Azubalis.
He stressed the key priorities of the Global Lithuania programme which include support for the Lithuanian education and the non-formal education abroad, the enhancement of the quality of consular services and the creation of the Lithuanian network.
The discussion with representatives from the Lithuanian organizations of the United Kingdom focused on the important issues of the Lithuanian foreign policy, economic recovery and the implementation of energy projects.
On November 11 in London, the minister will also meet with representatives of the Lithuanian media and will open the new premises of the Embassy of Lithuania.
Currently, there are 24 Lithuanian educational institutions in the United Kingdom, several Lithuanian public organizations, art collectives, Lithuanian periodicals. The parish of St. Kazimieras in London was opened in 1901.
