AT THE UN CONFERENCE IN ISTANBUL, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER WILL PRESENT LITHUANIA’S DEVELOPMENT CO-OPERATION IN AFGHANISTAN
On 10-11 May in Istanbul, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Evaldas Ignatavičius is participating in the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, where he will present Lithuania’s development cooperation in Afghanistan and in other partner countries.
At the discussions on issues of good governance in Turkey’s largest city, Vice-Minister will present Lithuania’s contribution to the reform of Afghanistan’s public administration institutions and the capacity-building of local administration officials and non-governmental organizations.At the Part of the conference that is dedicated to gender equality issues, Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius will speak about Lithuania’s most important achievements in this area and about the conference of women world leaders “Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices” on 30 June 2011 in Vilnius.
The First United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries convened in Paris in 1981. It is held every ten years. The fourth conference will take place this year. Heads of state and government from more than 50 countries around the world intend to participate in the conference.
Today 48 countries have been described as a group of least developed countries. They have a combined population of more than 880 million people.
