AT THE BRATISLAVA FORUM, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER DISCUSSES ISSUES OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND SECURITY
On 2-4 March, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius is taking part in Central Europe’s biggest security forum GLOBSEC 2011, which is traditionally held in Bratislava.
The forum addresses the U.S.-Russia relations, NATO’s new strategy, cyber and energy security, the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative, regional relations and other current topics of international cooperation.On 2 March, at the initiative of Belarusian opposition representatives, participating in the GLOBSEC 2011, a solidarity campaign was organized in Bratislava to express the support for the Belarusian political prisoners, who were detained after the presidential election campaign. During the campaign, Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius discussed the situation in the neighboring country with former leader of Belarus Stanislav Shushkievich and one of the country’s opposition leaders Alexander Milinkevich.
The Vice-Minister will discuss possible projects for cooperation with Belarus and other issues of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative at the meetings with representatives from the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and non-governmental organizations.
The GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum has been organized for six consecutive years. It is becoming a popular forum for transatlantic security cooperation. The organizers of the forum are: the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Slovak Atlantic Commission, NATO and the European Commission.
