AT POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS IN LONDON FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER PRESENTS LITHUANIA'S EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
On 22 November in London, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Evaldas Ignatavičius discussed with the Director of International Relations Division at United Kingdom Department for International Development, Anthony Smith, the issues of public information on development cooperation, as well as possible joint activities in the field of development cooperation in Moldova.
E.Ignatavičius introduced successful experience of Lithuania in implementing the European Union’s Twinning projects. Currently Lithuanian and British institutions implement joint projects in Moldova and Armenia.During the consultations, the British offered Lithuania their expertise in the preparation for the EU Council Presidency in 2013.
At a meeting with the head of Civil Society Department at the UK Department for International Development, Roy Trivedy Vice Minister stressed that when implementing development cooperation programs, Lithuania is paying more and more attention to non-governmental sector.
According to E.Ignatavičius, about 70% of Lithuanian funded development cooperation projects are put into practice by non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
In London the delegation led by the Vice Minister also met with representatives from UK non-governmental organizations. They were acquainted with spheres of Lithuania’s development cooperation, the main projects.
E.Ignatavičius shared Lithuanian Eastern Partnership policy experience, and invited NGOs from the United Kingdom to cooperate with similar Lithuanian NGOs in implementation of projects in Eastern Partnership countries.
