At Lithuania’s initiative, EU foreign ministers met with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi

On 18 November in Brussels, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminiţa Odobescu, hosted a meeting of EU foreign ministers with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.
“We have all witnessed Russia’s malign and large-scale interference in Moldovan elections. We are ready to contribute to an independent international investigation to help Moldovan law enforcement authorities dismantle Russia’s malicious operating schemes, bring those responsible to justice and prevent Russia from undermining democratic processes in Moldova,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy at the meeting.
Together with the Moldovan Foreign Minister, EU foreign ministers discussed actions that would strengthen support for Moldova’s European path and ongoing reforms. The meeting highlighted the importance of the EU and its partners’ resilience to Russia’s election meddling and disinformation.
The meeting participants stressed the need to further boost sectoral cooperation with Moldova and integrate it into the EU internal market. Structural reforms, for example, in the energy sector or the modernisation of telecommunications, payments, and banking systems, will bring tangible benefits to Moldova and its citizens in terms of European integration.
