At European Union-League of Arab States Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting, L.Linkevičius underlines need to ensure Ukraine’s territorial integrity
On 11 June in Athens, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in the European Union-League of Arab States Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting, stressed the importance of the political dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and the League of Arab States in resolving conflicts in the Middle East, and drew attention to the situation in Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected,” L.Linkevičius said. This position is reflected also in the final document of the European Union-League of Arab States meeting.
The 3rd European Union-League of Arab States Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting aims to strengthen political dialogue, discusses possibilities for the cooperation that aims to contribute to security, stability and prosperity in the region. The Foreign Ministers discussed not only economy, but also human rights promotion, civil society strengthening, crisis management and enhanced institutional cooperation. They also debated the situation in the region - Syria, Yemen, Sudan and other countries, also the Middle East peace process, terrorism and other issues.
L.Linkevičius also met with the Foreign Minister of Jordan Nasser Judeh to discuss cooperation within the United Nations Security Council and bilateral relations. During the conversation with the Foreign Ministers of Qatar and Tunisia Mongi Hamdi and Khalid Bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister raised the issue of visa facilitation for citizens of Lithuania, as well as other bilateral issues. L.Linkevičius also met with heads of delegations of Djibouti and Yemen.
