AN AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND HUNGARY ON MUTUAL REPRESENTATION BY THEIR DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR MISSIONS IN ISSUING SCHENGEN VISAS
On 20 November, in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Laszlo Szoke signed the agreement between the governments of Lithuania and Hungary on mutual representation by their diplomatic and consular missions in issuing Schengen visas.
This agreement stipulates that in the third countries, in which Lithuania has no diplomatic representations, Schengen visas shall be issued for the nationals of third countries at Hungarian diplomatic missions. Respectively, in the third countries, in which Hungary has no diplomatic missions, Schengen visas shall be issued for the nationals of third countries at Lithuanian diplomatic missions.
After this agreement comes into effect, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Hungary will agree on the concrete third countries, where Lithuania and Hungary are to represent each other in processing Schengen visas. The agreement will become effective upon joining the Schengen Area by the two countries.
