AN AGREEMENT ON INLAND WATER NAVIGATION BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND BELARUS SIGNED IN MEDININKAI
On 25 May Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergej Martynov met in Medininkai.
During the meeting an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on inland water navigation was signed. This agreement shall expand the Nemunas river watershed tourism perspectives permitting to renew the tourist route Grodno – Druskininkai.
Minister of Foreign Affairs P.Vaitiekūnas during his conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus stressed that Lithuania is interested to tackle bilateral problems in a pragmatic way. P.Vaitiekūnas drew attention to the fact that the dialogue with Lithuania, as well as with any other country of the European Union depends on the endeavour of Belarus. Minister also expressed concern about the recurrent cases of forfeit of the property of Lithuanian citizens at the Belorussian border.
During the meeting the Protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on the national border representatives’ activities was also signed.
It was agreed to comprise an intergovernmental working group to tackle the issues of electric power transit via the territory of Belarus.
