AMBASSADOR TO THE HOLY SEE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE POPE

On 6 December, new Lithuanian Ambassador to the Holy See presented credentials to the Pope John Paul II. In his speech the Pope shared pleasant reminiscences about his visit to Lithuania in 1993, rejoiced at changes occurred in Lithuania in recent years, especially accession to the EU. According to Vatican protocol rules during the audience the formal addresses are not delivered, the participants exchange the written texts of speeches instead. After the audience with the Pope the Ambassador met with Secretary of State of Vatican Cardinal Angelo Sodano. During the meeting they exchanged opinions on church and state cooperation for the good of Lithuanian citizens, processes related to the international community.
