Ambassador Meilūnas presented letters of credence to the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization
On 19 February, Egidijus Meilūnas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada and Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization, presented his letters of credence to the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar.
During the meeting, the successful cooperation between Lithuania and the ICAO was discussed. Ambassador Meilūnas emphasized the importance of aviation safety and highlighted the need to end Russia's and Belarus's actions, which pose a significant threat to civil aviation security. "Russia, which blatantly violates international law, has deprived the people of Ukraine of the ability to use civil aviation altogether. Therefore, Russia must be held accountable for these crimes."
These issues were also addressed during meetings with representatives from ICAO's Aviation Security Office and the EU Delegation.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1947, with its headquarters in Montreal, Canada. Lithuania became a member of ICAO on 7 February 1992. Ambassador Meilūnas is the second Lithuanian representative to this organization.
