Ambassador Jasilionytė presents her credentials to the President of Singapore

On 29 September, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania, Renata Jasilionytė, presented her letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The Ambassador conveyed the greetings of the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, and reiterated the President’s invitation to pay an official visit to Lithuania. President Tharman expressed his appreciation and shared memories of his personal visit to Lithuania.

Speaking about the priorities of her term, Ambassador Jasilionytė underlined that Lithuania views Singapore as an important partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Although our two countries are small in size, we face similar challenges and therefore have much to learn from one another. I will place particular emphasis on the exchange of best practices and on strengthening bilateral ties in the fields of fintech, energy and cybersecurity. We also have significant untapped potential for economic cooperation. We share similar views on security threats, which makes the political dimension of our cooperation equally important, including building Singapore’s support for the defence of international law and assistance to Ukraine,” said Jasilionytė.

President Tharman reaffirmed Singapore’s interest in continuing to strengthen bilateral relations and enquired about the regional security situation in Lithuania’s neighbourhood.

Jasilionytė is a career diplomat with extensive experience and has served in Lithuania’s diplomatic service since 1998.
