Ambassador Jankauskaitė presented letters of credence to King Mswati III of Eswatini
On 11 September, Lithuania's Ambassador Rasa Jankauskaitė presented her letters of credence to King Mswati III of Eswatini.
During the ceremony, the ambassador underlined Lithuania's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Eswatini and actively contributing to the development of the dialogue between the European Union and Eswatini, based on respect for democracy, human rights, and the rule of international law.
"I am convinced that our joint efforts will contribute to an even closer relationship between Lithuania, the European Union, and the Kingdom of Eswatini in order to strengthen peace, stability, and the well-being of the people," said Jankauskaitė.
During her visit to Eswatini, the Ambassador also met with the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Pholile Shakantu, and discussed bilateral relations, prospects for economic cooperation, opportunities to strengthen dialogue in multilateral formats, as well as issues of regional security and the international agenda.
The Ambassador highlighted areas where countries could work more closely together: agriculture and food processing, agro-technologies and sustainable fertiliser production, digital technologies and cybersecurity, renewable energy (solar and biomass projects), space innovation (small satellites for agriculture and climate change management), as well as higher education offering English-language study programmes to international students.
The EU remains one of the most important development cooperation partners for Eswatini. The EU and its member states support the country’s development priorities, including investment in infrastructure, green energy, social protection, and the development of trade opportunities under the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.
Jankauskaitė, who resides in the Republic of South Africa, is the first Lithuanian Ambassador accredited to the Kingdom of Eswatini. The Republic of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Eswatini established their diplomatic relations on 1 April 2021.
