On June 26, in the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a meeting of the Joint Committee under the Danish Government FEU-Programme in support of Lithuania’s preparation for EU membership took place. Head of the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretariat for Bilateral Aid to Central and Eastern Europe Countries Anne-Marie Esper Larsen led the Danish delegation. Head of the Lithuanian delegation was Director of the Economics Department of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Romas Švedas.
Over the meeting, the Agreement on Establishment of a Local Pre-Accession Facility under the Danish FEU-Programme for Lithuania’s preparation for EU membership was signed. In accordance with the Agreement, the Danish Government shall allot 1 million DKK (around 450 thousand Litas) for small and minor technical assistance projects, i.e. financing of urgent needs. The Agreement stipulates that not only may Danish experts be hired for implementation of the projects, but so may Lithuanian ones.
According to the Danish Government Programme of 2002, the aid for Lithuania’s EU-preparation will be provided in the areas of internal market, energy, agriculture, enhancement of administrative and judicial capacities, education and training.
