ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF LITHUANIAN CITIZENS ABROAD SHOWS IMPORTANCE OF COUNTRY’S EU MEMBERSHIP

Active participation in the EU membership referendum of Lithuanian citizens residing or temporarily staying in foreign countries including the member-states of the European Union testifies the importance of this step. It was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis who was visiting the US and voted in the referendum on 10 May in the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington. According to the Minister, it is both important and symbolic that Lithuanian citizens living abroad “who already today are able to take a look at themselves, their family and Lithuania in a wider context of Europe and the world” understand the importance of their participation in referendum and accept it as “their personal responsibility for their own future, the future of their children and Motherland Lithuania”.
