A. Zananavičius meets with Deputy Secretary-General of OECD

On 11 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Albinas Zananavičius met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Masamichi Kono. Representatives of the Government, the Office of the President, and other institutions responsible for cooperation with the OECD also attended the meeting.

“Membership of the OECD provides opportunities for such small but dynamic countries as Lithuania to participate in the creation of global standards and to use the OECD’s recommendations for implementing important reforms in the country,” said the Foreign Vice-Minister.

M. Kono presented the latest OECD projects and initiatives in the areas of digital economy, socially responsible business, and innovation policy.

Lithuania completed its accession process in record time. The country was commended for its efforts and progress in implementing good practices and commitments undertaken at the time of accession to the OECD. According to M. Kono, efforts should not be stopped upon becoming a member. Thus, Lithuania is expected to engage constructively in the organization’s activities, as well as to consistently implement commitments and important reforms, including in the area of management of state-owned enterprises.

Lithuania officially became a full member of the OECD in 2018. This year, the country opened its Permanent Representation to the OECD was in Paris.
