A protest was lodged with Russia regarding a Lithuanian-owned company that was hit during the attacks in Kyiv
On 7 August, a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Lithuania was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed a note of strong protest regarding the Russian military’s ongoing massacre of Ukrainian civilians and continued destruction of civilian infrastructure.
On the night of 4-5 August, a large-scale Russian shelling of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and its surrounding areas killed at least 17 civilians and injured several dozen more. Russian missiles and drones struck residential buildings, warehouses, logistics hubs, manufacturing facilities, and commercial establishments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns this attack carried out by Russia, which, among other things, destroyed the food warehouse of the Lithuanian-owned company “Novus,” and emphasizes that attacks against civilians and civilian objects are prohibited under the Geneva Conventions during international armed conflicts, and serious violations of these conventions are considered war crimes.
The note also points out that Ukrainian civilians are suffering particularly in frontline areas, where incidents of so-called “drone safaris” targeting residents are constantly being reported. One such incident was recorded in Kherson, where a drone injured a vegetable vendor. In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates that under international law, there is no statute of limitations for war crimes and other international crimes.
The Republic of Lithuania once again demands that the Russian Federation immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its occupying forces from all internationally recognized Ukrainian territory, and compensate Ukraine for the damages caused.
