A delegation of the U.S. Congressional staffers is visiting Lithuania

On 30 June, a delegation of the U.S. Congressional employees who support members of the Senate and the House in their official duties visited Lithuania. In a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs they discussed the importance of strengthening transatlantic cooperation, the security situation in the region, the outcomes of the recent NATO summit in The Hague, Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, and bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and the United States.
On 30 June, a delegation of the U.S. Congressional employees who support members of the Senate and the House in their official duties visited Lithuania. In a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs they discussed the importance of strengthening transatlantic cooperation, the security situation in the region, the outcomes of the recent NATO summit in The Hague, Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, and bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and the United States.
Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, who welcomed the representatives of the U.S. Congress at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thanked them for the consistent and strong U.S. support of the security of the Baltic States, especially through the deployment of the U.S. troops in Lithuania and military infrastructure support provided through the Baltic Security Initiative. Discussions at the Ministry focused on hybrid threats and threats posed by Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’, and issues of international pressure on Russia, highlighting the need to strengthen sanctions and consistent support for Ukraine. Lithuanian diplomats noted to the guests that Lithuania is the best friend of the United States in Europe, highly valueing the strategic partnership and at jointly striving to meet security challenges.
Members of the delegation were informed that, as a credible US ally, our state, was responsibly fulfilling its commitments and consistently investing in its defence. Moreover, the presence of the U.S. in our region is a crucial factor for our security and stability.
In Lithuania, the delegation also met with representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the Office of the President, members of the Seimas, visited the Geopolitics and Security Studies Center, Pabradė Training Area, where they inspected the new infrastructure under construction, met with the U.S. troops at the camp Herkus.
The visit of the U.S. Congressional staffers to Lithuania is organized twice a year. During the visit, the U.S. officials are acquainted with the security situation in Lithuania and the Baltic Sea region and discuss prospects for bilateral relations, energy, economy, cyber security, and other international policy issues. After the visit to Lithuania, the delegation travels to other Baltic countries.
