A CONSULATE HEADED BY THE LITHUANIAN HONORARY CONSUL WAS OPENED IN ITALY

On 28 February, Lithuanian Ambassador to Italy Šarūnas Adomavičius opened a Consulate in the City of Genoa, headed by the Lithuanian Honorary Consul Massimo Manuelli.

M.Manuelli is appointed to carry out consular functions in the consular district of Liguria, the region of Northern Italy.

M.Manuelli was born in 1970. After graduating from studies in economics at the University of Genoa, he acquired a specialization in Labour law.

Welcoming the gathered members of local authorities from the region of Liguria and the City of Genoa, representatives of culture and business, Ambassador Š.Adomavičius was glad that the relations between Lithuania and Italy were developing and highlighted the importance of the Lithuanian Honorary Consuls in the development of Lithuanian economic and cultural relations with Italian regions and cities. The Ambassador mentioned their help to the Lithuanian citizens living or travelling in Italy.

The Ambassador also stressed the significance of Consulates, headed by the Lithuanian Honorary Consuls, for the development of tourism in our country, in particularly when the year 2009 is approaching and Vilnius will become the European Capital of Culture.

Lithuanian Ambassador at Large Romanas Podagėlis, Deputy Director of Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Petras Anusas, Lithuanian Honorary Consuls in Italy participated at the opening ceremony of the Consulate.

At the Municipality of Genoa, Ambassador Š.Adomavičius opened a photography exhibition about the Lithuanian path to Independence. For the representatives of culture and business from the City of Genoa, the Ambassador presented perspectives of the Lithuanian tourism and told about the Lithuanian culture.

Today six Lithuanian Honorary Consulates are functioning in Italy: in Bari, Genoa, Cagliari, Milan, Turin and Venice.
