A CHRISTMAS TREE PRESENTED BY LITHUANIA LIGHTS UP IN TBILISI
On 28 December in Tbilisi, late at night, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas and the Mayor of Tbilisi lit up a Christmas tree, which was a gift by Lithuania to the children of Georgia. While lighting up the Christmas tree, V.Ušackas said that it was a great honour to present the gift of the Lithuanian people to the children in Georgia and that he was happy to join them for the celebrations.
“This Christmas tree comes together with best regards from Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009”, said Minister V.Ušackas.
The Christmas tree that was lit up on the Square of Roses in Tbilisi is identical to the one on the Town Hall Square in Vilnius. It is 17 meters high and reached Georgia over ten days. It will decorate Tbilisi, the capital of the country, till the end of the celebration of Christmas and the New Year according to the old calendar.
During the ceremony of lighting up the Christmas tree, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs V.Ušackas met with members of the children’s band Bzikebi (“Wasps”), who had won the 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest and invited them to come to Lithuania.
