50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TREATY OF ROME WILL BE COMMEMORATED IN LITHUANIA
Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Seimas, Chancery of the Government, Representation of the European Commission in Lithuania, Embassy of Germany currently presiding over the EU and other institutions organize a series of public events related to the European Union to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.
On 25 January the programme of events was presented to the EU diplomats residing in Lithuania. Embassies of the EU Member States are invited to participate and contribute to promotion of the European Union’s goals and values.
The events will take place all over Lithuania throughout the year. Scientific conferences, public debates, quizzes, courses, exhibitions, fairs, concerts, etc. will be organized.
“The 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome is an excellent opportunity to turn to and explore the history of the EU and to promote public discussions about the EU: what kind of Europe we want and what should be Lithuania’s role in Europe,” Vidmantas Purlys, Director of the European Union Department said.
