Switzerland recognized Lithuania de jure on 19 July 1921.
Switzerland recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure on 28 August 1991.
Diplomatic relations were re-established on 5 September 1991.
From 2002 to 2004, Ambassador Edminas Bagdonas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Switzerland after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations (resided in Italy).
From 1992 to 1995, Gaudenz Ruf served as the first Ambassador to Lithuania after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations (resided in Latvia).
