Slovenia recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure on 16 May 1991.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Slovenia were established on 22 November 1991.
From 1998 to 2001, Gintė Bernadeta Damušis served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Slovenia (resided in Austria).
From 1992 to 1996, Ivo Vajgl served as the first Ambassador of Slovenia to Lithuania (resided in Sweden).
