Poland recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania on 26 August 1991.
Diplomatic relations were established on 5 September 1991.
From 1991 to 1992, Chargé d’Affaires Dainius Junevičius served as the first Lithuanian representative to Poland after the re-establishment of independence (From 1992 to 1994, Dainius Junevičius served as the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Poland).
From 1991 to 1992, Chargé d’Affaires Mariusz Maszkiewicz served as the first Polish representative to Lithuania after the re-establishment of independence.
