Norway recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania оn 24 August 1991.
Diplomatic relations were established on 27 August 1991.
In 1991, Chargé d’Affaires Dalius Čekuolis served as the first Lithuanian representative to Norway after the re-establishment of independence (from 1992 Dalius Čekuolis served as the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Denmark, Norway, and Iceland).
From 1991 to 1996, Per Gullik Stavnum served as the first Ambassador of Norway to Lithuania.
