Lithuania recognized Macedonia de jure оn 25 June 1992.

Diplomatic relations were established on 11 July 1995.

From 2007 to 2008, Darius Jonas Semaška was the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Macedonia (resided in Hungary).

In 1995, Tihomir Ilievski served as the first Ambassador of Macedonia to Lithuania (resided in Poland).
