On 11 June 2008 Libya recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 11 June 2008, Libya recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure. Diplomatic relations were re-established on the same day.
From 2009 to 2014, Petras Zapolskas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Libya (resided in Italy).
In 2010 Abdulhafed Gaddur was appointed the first Ambassador of Libya to Lithuania (resided in Italy).
