On 6 November 1923 Ecuador recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 2 September 1991 Ecuador recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure.
Diplomatic relations were established on 20 October 1992.
From 1994 to 1996, Hernan Guarderas Iturralde served as the first Ambassador of Ecuador to Lithuania (resided in Sweden).
