Chile recognized Lithuania de jure оn 23 May 1922.
Chile recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure оn 28 August 1991.
Diplomatic relations were re-established on 5 December 1991.
From 2010 to 2012, Vaclovas Šalkauskas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Chile (resided in Argentina).
From 1992 to 1994, Alvaro Zuniga served as the first Ambassador of Chile to Lithuania (resided in Denmark).
