Austria recognized Lithuania de jure on 7 February 1924.
Austria recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure on 28 August 1991. Diplomatic relations wеrе re-established on the same day.
From 1994 to 1997, Chargé d’Affaires Rimantas Juozapas Tonkūnas served as the first Lithuanian representative to Austria after the re-establishment of independence.
In 1992, Franz Wunderbaldinger served as the first Ambassador of Austria to Lithuania after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations (resided in Copenhagen).
