Albania recognized Lithuania de jure оn 27 August 1991.

Diplomatic relations were established on 27 April 1992.

From 2002 to 2006, Dainius Junevičius served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Albania (resided in Greece).

From 1996 to 1998, Idriz Konjari served as the first Ambassador of Albania to Lithuania (resided in Sweden).
