Statement of solidarity with Georgian diplomats

Statement of solidarity with Georgian diplomats

We, diplomats and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, are closely following the disturbing developments in Georgia after the announced decision by its government to halt the country’s EU integration.

We express our solidarity with our fellow diplomats and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, who signed a petition against the suspension of Georgia’s EU integration until 2028.

We strongly believe that Georgia is a European State, and its future lies within the EU and NATO. The aspirations of the Georgian people, with more than 80 percent of them supporting Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration, cannot be let down.

We wholeheartedly welcome the courageous move by our Georgian colleagues to make their voices heard.

We will continue to follow the situation in Georgia closely, with a special focus on the safety and non-discrimination of those colleagues at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who have already signed or will sign the petition. We will insist that anyone taking action against them face full accountability.

We call on diplomats and employees of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of other states to join this action of solidarity with our courageous Georgian colleagues.

Signed by 328 diplomats and employees (by 10 am, December 3)
