On 13 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with Amal Jadou, Assistant Minister on European Affairs at the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting discussed the situation in the Middle East and prospects for bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Palestine.
On 11-12 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in the meeting of the Nordic and Baltic (NB8) Foreign Ministers in Reykjavik, Iceland. The meeting focused on issues of importance to all countries in the region, including regional security challenges, cyber and hybrid threats, relations with Russia and China, the situation in Ukraine, items on the EU agenda, the Arctic, climate change, and other issues.
On September 12, Embassy of Lithuania in Canada together with the Embassies of Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and Moldova organize an international conference to mark the 80th anniversary of Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. The key speaker of the conference will be Garry Kasparov who is a former chess-master, pro-democracy activist and one of the Russian opposition leaders. The conference will involve a panel discussion about the legacy of the Nazi-Soviet Pact today, featuring international experts and political leaders.
On 12 September, the Ambassador of Lithuania to the state of Israel Lina Antanavičienė presented her letters of credence to the Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.
On 11 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius received the new Ambassador of Romania to Lithuania Cosmin George Dinescu. Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister welcomed the good and intensifying relationship between Lithuania and Romania, and thanked the country for maintaining focus on the Eastern Partnership during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. D. Skusevičius also voiced his hope that both countries would be able to keep this item on the EU agenda also in the future.
On 11 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius received the new Ambassador of Germany to Lithuania Matthias Peter Sonn. The Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the President Gitanas Nausėda on the same day.
On 11 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Latvia to Lithuania Indulis Bērziņš. The meeting discussed the upcoming visit of the President of Lithuania to Latvia in July, the future visit of the President of Latvia to Lithuania, intense bilateral economic cooperation, as well as prospects for the implementation of joint strategic infrastructure projects – the synchronization of the Baltic States' electricity grid with the continental European system and the Rail Baltica project.
On 10 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continued his visit to Georgia and was received by the new Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia. The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy congratulated the head of government of Georgia on his recent appointment. L. Linkevičius also voiced our country's unwavering support for Georgia's European aspirations.
On 9 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania D. Skusevičias met with the new Israeli Ambassador Yossi Avni Levy. The Foreign Vice-Minister welcomed the intense relationship between Lithuania and Israel, discussed further cooperation between the two countries, and preparations for the Year of the Vilna Gaon and the History of the Jews of Lithuania in 2020.
On 10 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with the U.S. Governor of Pennsylvania Thomas Westerman Wolf and discussed Lithuania’s economic cooperation with this state, security and defense issues, and noted an active contribution of the Lithuanian community to the strengthening of these ties.
On 9 September, the sixth meeting of the Lithuanian-Georgian Commission for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration was held in Tbilisi. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and David Zakaliani co-chaired the meeting.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania does not recognize the holding of the illegal "regional and local elections" in the annexed Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol on 8 September or the results.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the return of Ukrainian citizens who were illegally captured and detained by Russia. Among the released prisoners is Oleh Sencov, winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought 2018, Edem Bekirov, a Crimean Tatar activist and other political prisoners, as well as 24 sailors captured during the aggressive actions of Russia in the Strait of Kerch in 2018. We share the joy of the families of those released and wish them a prompt recovery.
On 1 September, the Ambassador of Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates Edminas Bagdonas presented his letters of credence to the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Ambassador also conveyed the greetings of the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.
On 2 September Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Shen Zhifei, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed a note over the incident aimed at the participants of the peaceful demonstration that took place in Vilnius Cathedral Square on 23 August.
