Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis: Lithuania is a safe and reliable partner for the U.S. investment
On 21-23 June, the American-Lithuanian Business Council (ALBC) hosted its 8th annual business mission to Vilnius and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis held a meeting with the ALBC delegation.
Landsbergis noted that the United States was a strategic and economic partner of great importance for Lithuania. “Now, more than ever, we feel that we can rely on the U.S. political and economic support for Lithuania and significantly expand our economic cooperation,” the Foreign Minister said.
In 2021, the U.S. was the second-largest export market for Lithuanian products, amounting to EUR 1.96 billion. Between January and April 2022, Lithuanian exports continued to grow by 20 %, as compared to the same period in 2021, and amounted to EUR 754 million. Lithuania's Foreign Minister and representatives of various companies also discussed possibilities to develop cooperation in the field of defence by integrating Lithuanian companies into the U.S. defence business value chains.
The delegation consisted of representatives from 10 U.S. companies, including Citi, Jacobs, Oshkosh Defense, Lockheed Martin, Medtronic, Motorola Solutions, MSD, Palo Alto Networks, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Strategic Staffing Solutions. The companies are already operating or planning their activities in Lithuania.
During the visit, representatives of the companies also met with the Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, advisers to the President of Lithuania on national security, foreign affairs, economics, as well as Ministers and Vice-Ministers of Energy, Finance, the Economy and Innovation, Foreign Affairs, National Defence, Health, as well as Education, Science and Sport. During the meeting with the Innovation Agency, priorities of innovation policy were presented.
The annual business mission emphasised the importance of strengthening the relationship between Lithuania and the U.S., increased trade volumes and improved opportunities for further U.S. investment in Lithuania.
The American-Lithuanian Business Council (ALBC) is the U.S. based non-profit organization that promotes commercial relations between the United States and Lithuania. Its mission is to enhance American-Lithuanian trade and investment, advance the American-Lithuanian bilateral relationship, and educate the public about its importance.
