On 22 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius paid a visit to Copenhagen as part of the delegation led by the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark hosted the Minister and the Lithuanian delegation for lunch. The Minister also held meetings with the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Mogens Lykketoft.
During the visit, the Minister met with the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Villy Søvndal, the Danish Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen, and the Danish Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Claus Grube.
The meetings focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Denmark, and regional cooperation, Lithuania’s preparation to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Eastern Partnership initiative, and other issues. The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also thanked Denmark for sharing the experience accumulated during the Danish Presidency of the EU Council. |
