At the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on September 6, descendants of Jewish Holocaust survivors were acquainted with Lithuania’s efforts to perpetuate the memory of the Jewish people and to learn from past mistakes. This is the first of the series of events that are organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in the U.S. in September and October on the occasion of the National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews on 23 September.
In September, the Embassy and the Illinois State Society are organising an event to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. On this occasion, the Lithuanian representation also organises a concert. An exhibition of world-famous Litvak painter Samuel Bak, who was born in Vilnius, will be opened in October; a film about famous Jewish writer Abraham Karpinowitz will also be screened. |
