The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate publicity activities for the European Year of Citizens 2013. It was decided at a Government meeting on 20 March.
On 21 November 2012, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union made 2013 the European Year of Citizenship. The European Year of Citizens 2013 will focus on rights that every EU citizen has and benefits from these rights, as well as on the building of a European identity and civil awareness.
To this end, the Foreign Ministry will coordinate the engagement of Lithuanian state institutions and non-governmental organizations in the activities of the European Year of Citizens 2013. The Ministry will be responsible for drafting the national programme for the European Year of Citizens and for coordinating the publicity campaign.
